Activate
Apprentice Development Programme
How does it work?
Our Activate programme puts your apprentices in a new and unfamiliar environment in which both teamwork and self-reliance are required. It lets you observe your apprentices’ responses to a range of challenges and assess their progress during and after their time with us.
Included in the programme is time for you to run your own sessions – e.g. company induction or additional review sessions based on your observations.
Courses usually take place over 5 days, during which your apprentices participate in a planned programme of challenging and inspiring outdoor activities - facilitated by experienced PGL instructors. Activities are selected to enable participants to demonstrate control, commitment, confidence and challenge.
Evenings present further opportunities for team-building challenges, review sessions or social time to get to know new colleagues.
Why choose PGL?
- We are on the Register of Approved Training Providers (RoATP)
- PGL Activate programmes can help you meet the 20% off-the-job training requirement for apprentices
- Your apprenticeship levy funds can contribute to the cost of a PGL programme

Learning outcomes
Integral to our programme is the assessment of ‘mental toughness’ (a combination of control, commitment, challenge and confidence) based on the internationally recognised MTQ48 psychometric survey.
Understanding these behaviours (known as ‘the 4 Cs’) is important in improving individual performance and well-being. Mentally tough individuals perform consistently under pressure and deal better with stress and challenges - vital requirements for your organisation when hiring or building a resilient workforce.
