All Aboard
Aeroball
Abseiling
Got a head for heights? Enjoy heart-in-mouth moments as you scale down the side of our purpose-built abseiling wall.
All Aboard
A test of courage, communication and team work. Can your family team all manage to climb the huge pole and balance on the tiny platform at the top? A tough challenge that can only be completed if you all work together. Will you reach the top of the pole?
Aeroball
Think 'volleyball meets trampolining'. Trickier than it looks, this energetic game is loads of fun as you try to score while bouncing!
Archery
Experience the time-honoured thrills of bows and arrows, with expert instructors on hand to help you hit the bullseye.
Ball Sports
Whether it is football, netball, volleyball or basketball – challenge other teams to a little friendly competition. Anyone can join in these sports, no matter your ability!
Beach Games
If the weather is good, why not head down to the beach for some fun? Get a team together and try your hand at volleyball!
Beach/Coastal Walk
An opportunity to see some of the amazing sights in the natural environment close to our centres. Take a walk along the beach or coastal path close to your PGL centre and take part in the challenges and activities created by our staff.
Buggy Build
Rely on team work, skill and determination to build your family's moving ‘buggy’ using only the materials provided. How long will your buggy survive?
Canoeing
Unlike a kayak, canoes are open topped and many take more than one person. Whether it’s your first time in a boat on one of our lakes or you are a more experienced paddler, canoeing is always exciting, challenging, fun – and occasionally very wet!
Catwalk
This is a real test of balance and agility – two things that cats have in bucket loads. High above the ground you’ll find a variety of challenges – beams, wires and the like – don’t worry you’ll be safely harnessed on and you’ll be helped by lots of encouragement from those watching from the ground.
Challenge Course
Ready to climb, crawl and tip-toe through our obstacles? Our course is sometimes wet and muddy, but always loads of fun!
Climbing
Can you reach the top? Experience the ideal introduction to climbing with our expert instructors to guide you. Once you're on the wall it's your determination, clear-thinking and encouragement from your family that will get you higher!
Crate Challenge
Constructing a tower of crates sounds easy but can your team build the tallest? What’s more you’ll need to prove its strength by having two members of the team on top while you’re building! Can you work out how to keep building your tower by adding crates without knocking your team members off? Don’t worry they will be wearing harnesses and safety ropes just in case!
Dragon Boating
A hugely popular water sport that has spread across the globe from Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands where these boats are traditionally found. Dragon Boating requires strength and determination but most importantly team work. Your instructor will helm (steer) the boat but success in the race depends on the ability of your team (up to 24 people) to work together to paddle rhythmically and effectively throughout. Make no mistake, the team in the other boat will be equally determined to win but no matter who wins there’s always lots of fun, laughter, splashing and shouts of encouragement throughout.
Dry Ski Slope
Skiing in summer? Who’d have thought it? Whether you are a complete beginner or a pro skier, our new optional extra to try skiing for just £25pp at our Barton Hall centre is a great activity at any time of year! (pre-booking required)
Family Challenge
Get competitive and test your skills as a family against others! Who will become the winning family team of the holiday?
Fencing
En garde! Get to grips with the basic principles of this classic Olympic sport, with expert guidance from our instructors.
Forest Trail
Explore the surrounding forests and discover the local wildlife around your centre. Track the creatures you find on the forest floor and listen out for bird calls in the canopy.
Giant Swing
How high will you go? You’ll be harnessed into a two-seater swing before the rest of your group haul you up to 10m high. It’s up to you and your partner to decide when you want to pull the release cord to send you hurtling down towards the ground before swinging up towards the sky!
High Ropes Course
The sky's the limit! Experience what it feels like to explore the sky and challenge yourself on an obstacle course 10m off the ground. You will need all the determination and balance you can summon to get round to the end, not to mention the cheers of support from the rest of the group as you overcome each of the obstacles.
Hike
Explore the great outdoors, discover beautiful local countryside and test your endurance on a fascinating trek.
Initiative Exercises
Working in small teams, you will need to solve puzzles, make decisions and communicate with each other in order to complete the task.
Jacob's Ladder
This giant sized ladder may seem insurmountable, however with a little help from your family you’ll be amazed at how high you’ll get. Push, pull and work as a team to get to the very top.
Kayaking
Kayaking is a really great way to explore our waterways and we are lucky at PGL to have wide variety of rivers and lakes where you can learn and develop new skills. Your instructors will help get you started and if it’s your first time in a kayak they’ll teach you the basics. Our kayaks are generally built for one person so it’s completely up to you how far you test it’s stability in the water but the variety of team games and individual challenges presented by your instructor will help you push your skills to the limit. Will you stay dry or will your kayak get the upper hand?
Low Level Ropes Course
Learn the ropes! You're just a metre up so there's no fear - and we'll help you negotiate the tricky obstacles and challenges.
Matrix
Stepping through secret gateways to solve puzzles, tasks and take part in other activities, the Matrix tests both physical and mental agility. The various tasks are great for improving your communication skills, your ability to cooperate with each other and teamwork.
Mountain Biking
Exciting and challenging but safe, we will tailor your MTB session according to how much you’ve done before and the skill level you already have on a bike. You will improve your bike control as well as having the opportunity to put your skills to the test on one of our selected on or off-site routes.
Nature Trail
PGL centres are set in a variety of fantastic locations offering a wide range of habitats for both plants and animals. We’ll provide all the equipment you need such as nets, and magnifying pots so that you can find out and record exactly who or what is sharing your PGL centre.
Orienteering
Let's explore. Learn map reading skills from our team, then put them to the test, finding control points around the centre.
Problem Solving
Up for a tricky challenge? Test your brain, solve complex puzzles and tasks, and work as a team against the clock.
Quad Biking
Race round our purpose built, off-road motorsports tracks and develop your skills safely! Learn how to operate a quad bike correctly and work up to designing your own personal course, using equipment including obstacles, ramps, see-saws and limbo bars.
Raft Building
Build a raft that will float (and hopefully steer) using the barrels, ropes and wood provided. Once built you will need to test it out on the water – will you end up in the water or will you stay dry? It all depends on how well you and your team work together.
Rifle Shooting
Are you a sharp shooter? Test your aim and concentration using our lightweight rifles, with expert guidance from our team.
Sailing
Sailing is an incredibly popular sport and if this is your first time in a sailing boat you will soon see why people enjoy it so much. Our instructors are RYA (Royal Yachting Association) qualified and they will show you how (and when and why) to raise and lower the sails, and the importance of the keel that gives the boat its name. You’ll get some hands-on experience steering (taking the helm) as well as getting to grips with all the basic techniques required to harness the power of the wind and waves and keep your boat moving in the right direction.
Sensory Trail
Follow the rope and see what surprises await you. You’ll be blindfolded so you will need to rely on all your other senses to tell you what’s happening.
Sports and Team Games
A great way to bond with the rest of your group, traditional sports such as uni-hoc, basketball, 5-a-side football, volleyball and lacrosse will enable you to build a team and work together to develop winning tactics as well as having fun!
Street Surfing
Totally gnarly dude! A thrilling combination of surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding techniques all taking place on dry land. Street Surfing is increasingly being used to train top surfers and snowboarders. It’s very cool and you don’t need any previous experience to be able to have a go – in fact you’ll find that pretty much everyone starts at the same level (totally incapable) but then it suddenly clicks and you can do it!
Survivor
Work as a team to build a wilderness shelter and learn to stay warm and dry using whatever you can find.
Swimming
It’s Aquafuntastic in our pools. Games and team activities in the water under the constant supervision of our qualified lifeguards.
Trapeze
Each stage of the trapeze is a challenge in itself. First there’s the climb to the top of the 6 metre pole, then you have to get into position on the small platform at the top. You’ll need every ounce of balance you can find to stand up and then finally make that leap for the trapeze. You’ll feel an amazing sense of achievement when you succeed at each step.
Tree Climb
The countryside around Dalguise is home to some of the tallest trees in Europe. The best way to really appreciate the size of these beauties is by getting in amongst them and the easiest way to do that is to learn to climb them!
Tunnel Trail
Time for some subterranean fun? Explore our tunnel maze, solve the challenges, and experience a unique underground adventure.
Vertical Challenge
A challenge courses but with added height! Secured to a safety rope and belayed by one of your team mates you’ll make your way, up through and over the various challenges which could include anything from cargo nets and climbing walls to crates and ropes.
Zip Wire
Take to the skies! Whizz at high speed in mid-air, through the landscape, in this unforgettably thrilling experience.
